You can’t just be.
You can’t wear what you want
Dye your hair how you want
Say or do what you want
Be passionate
or in your feelings
or try to connect – even generally – to your ancestry – even if you can’t pin-point it with DNA accuracy
just every breath and move, manifested or expressed thought of self, desire, experience, a noticing of problems and a hope for solution, is questioned, judge, mocked, ridiculed, criticized, defined by EVERYONE else, and just generally spat on……
for what though?
don’t listen to what negative things people tell you about life. listen and sympathize out of respect (if you even care to) but let it go in one ear and out the other. they are projecting their fears and uncertainties onto you. that is their truth and the reality they CHOOSE to live in. Just because it is THEIR truth doesn’t mean it will be YOUR truth. You have the power to create… just like everyone else. as above, so below.
Don’t think that your writing is inadequate. Remember the reason you write—you write for yourself, and not for others—and never forget that.
Your self-expression is nothing less than beautiful. Maybe he writes more eloquently, and she writes more poetically, but it doesn’t make your work any less than theirs.
No one in the world is going to be able to write the way you do, with the tone you use. There’s always going to be something about your writing that is markedly you. Be proud of it (:
I am learning to see. I don’t know why it is, but everything enters me more deeply and doesn’t stop where it once used to.

I was almost rabid
for love.
Would’ve lunged at any thing
thrown my way
carcass, shadow, memory, promise
shell of a man.
I thought it was better
to be loved by a dead thing
than to be left alone.
Then I loved a dead thing
and was completely alone.
why though? and why me?
So I have to be natural to show your daughter how to superficially embrace blackness?
Blackness is more than a fro and a fist.
And blackness is not something I should be pressured to “wear” to pick up where your bad parenting left off.
Miss me.
Please stop calling this a nation of immigrants. We are not a nation of immigrants. We are a nation of colonizers, ex-slaves, ghosts of genocide victims, and preferred immigrants.
